Because puppies should start basic training and socializing as early as 8 weeks.
A unique window of opportunity to exists for puppies under 16 weeks of age where they sponge information during every waking moment. Giving your puppy the chance to learn positive play techniques in a safe environment will help him or her develop into a resilient, confident dog.
Introduction to basic manners during this class will help to make home-life with your puppy more pleasant, as you both learn how to communicate with each other.
A word on vaccinations: The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour supports puppies attending well-run puppy socialization classes prior to getting all vaccinations. In line with their recommendations, puppies with only their first set of vaccinations, and one deworming or negative fecal test are welcome to join classes, and should continue their vaccinations over the duration of this program. In fact, in 2013 a study described in the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association concluded that puppies vaccinated at lease once prior to starting puppy classes at less than 16 weeks of age were at no more risk of being diagnosed with Canine Parvovirus infection than vaccinated puppies that did not attend classes.
Don’t wait to start training and socialization! Teach puppies good habits now, instead of trying to fix bad habits for the rest of their life!
